The Poetry Fence of
Del Ray

I'm well-known in my Del Ray, Alexandria community and far beyond for creating and curating the poetry fence that forms the border of my property along a public sidewalk. When I first started it, neighbors called it the poetry fence. A local journalist called me The Poetry Lady of Del Ray. The names grew as organically as the fence.

Started in 2009, the poetry fence is a tranquil place with a rotating display of poems, thought provoking news stories, and vibrant images with uplifting text that provides inspiration, solace, and education for people of all ages and walks of life. People visit from my community and from other cities and countries.

My upcoming book, The Poetry Fence: A Catalyst for Community, shares stories about these neighbors and visitors who have quietly stopped at the fence and frequently have talked with me – with conversations light and fun, deeply meaningful, or both.
